Getting Started

How do I shorten a URL anonymously?

Paste your URL in the input box, make sure that you have selected "Anonymous," and then click "Shorten!"

How do I create an account?

Paste your URL in the input box, make sure that you have not selected "Anonymous," and then click "Continue". From there, fill in your email address and type a custom slug if you wish. Once you are done, click "Shorten!" In a few minutes, you will receive a password sent to your email, which you will need to use to verify your account by logging in.

How will the shortened link look like?

The link that you create will take the following format: shw.li/slug where "slug" will be your own custom created one or one that is generated by us.

What is a slug?

A slug is the custom ending of your short link. For example, in shw.li/yourword, the "yourword" part is the slug. You can choose a word or phrase to make your link easy to remember and share. If you don’t pick one, a random slug will be generated for you.

What is a management code?

A management code is given to all anonymous users after creating their link. It is meant to be a way for us to verify the identity of the user if the user wishes to manage their link after creating, such as request to delete the link. It is also possible to create a full account for an anonymous user, given they have the correct management code.

How many links can a registered user create?

To keep the system fair, all registered users are limited to 10 links. If you require more, take a look at the other section below.

How do I contact support?

There are 2 ways to contact us. The first method is to click here to use the contact us form that is placed on the main site. The second way is to email us at support@shortw.com

I forgot my password.

If you forgot your password, you can recover it by going to the login page, writing your email address that you used to sign up with, and clicking "Recover Password." You will then be sent a recovery link to reset your password. This might take a few minutes to arrive. Please check your spam or junk folder incase it was sent there.

How do I change my password?

Changing your password can be done in the dashboard. After logging in, click the "Account" button, which is found on the top right corner, and click "Change Password."

How do I create a new link?

To create a new link, click on the "Create New Link" button, found on the top left side. From there, paste the link you wish to shorten and a custom slug (optional). Note, you are limited to 10 links.

How do I collect user's location?

To collect a user's location, find the "Collection Settings" section in the side bar and toggle the "Collect Location" option. Note that you will also see the collection status update according to your collection settings.

How do I collect user's device type?

To collect a user's device type, find the "Collection Settings" section in the side bar and toggle the "Collect Device" option. Note that you will also see the collection status update according to your collection settings.

How do I set a password for my link?

To setup a password for the link, find the "Password" section in the side bar and click on "Set Password." From there, you can type a password that is between 5-50 characters. This option requires the user to know the correct password before being redirected to the correct link. Note that the click will not count till the user has provided the right password. To remove the password requirment, click on the "Remove Password" button that is found under the "Password" section.

How do set an expiry for my link?

To setup an expiry for the link, find the "Expiry" section in the sidebar and click on the "Set Expiry" button. From there, you will be shown a window with two options. The first is to set an expiry based on a specific time and date. The second is to set an expiry based on the amount of clicks a link receives. After choosing your expiry type, click "Update" to confirm the changes. Once the link expires, collection of statistics will automatically stop and users will be shown a 404 error message. Note to remove the expiry, click on the "Remove Expiry" button that is under the "Expiry" section.

How do I toggle my link?

To toggle your link, find the "Toggle Link" section in the sidebar and click on "Disable Link" or "Enable Link." If the link is disabled, collection of statistics will automatically stop and users will be shown a 404 error message.

How do I reset link statistics?

To reset the link statistics, find the "Reset Stats" button in the sidebar and click it. You will be asked to confirm the reset by typing the current slug of the link you want to reset the statistics for. After doing so, all the statistics will be permanently deleted. Note that the deletion is irreversible.

How to delete a link?

To delete a link, the link statistics, find the "Delete Link" button in the sidebar and click it. You will be asked to confirm the deletion by typing the current slug of the link you want to delete. After doing so, the link will be deleted from your account. Note that the deletion is irreversible.

How do I delete my account?

If you wish to delete your account, you can do so from the dashboard. After logging in, click the "Account" button, which is found on the top right corner, and click "Delete Account."

Other

I need more than 10 links.

To keep the system fair, all registered users are limited to 10 links. However, it is always possible to request a higher limit. In some cases such as for companies and organizations the limit can be increased. To check if it is possible to increase the limit, please email us at support@shortw.com

I did not receive a password reset link.

The password reset link can take up to five minutes to arrive. Sometimes, the email can be incorrectly categorized as spam or junk, so please check those folders just incase. Furthermore, a password reset request is sent out once every 15 minutes. So make sure you wait atleast 15 minutes between requests.

I have weird issues.

For many users that have strange or weird issues with the site, it is commonly mitigated by clearing your browser's cache. However, before doing so, try changing your browser or device to confirm if your browser is indeed the issue. If the issue persists, please email us at support@shortw.com
